// NO OBLIGATION · NO BROKERS REQUIRED · FOUNDER TO FOUNDER

The problem with most buyers

Most owners are right to be wary of selling. Too many acquirers strip the brand, churn the technicians, and treat a life's work as a line on a spreadsheet.

You spent decades earning your reputation — one service call, one install, one handshake at a time. Then a buyer shows up, promises continuity, and eighteen months later the name is gone, the senior techs have quit, and your longest-standing customers are calling you at home asking what happened.

We started Northstar because this industry deserves a better kind of buyer: one that comes from the trade, understands what a service reputation is actually worth, and builds companies up instead of hollowing them out.

We're not a fund passing through. We're operators from this industry, building for the long term.

What our companies do

What our companies install & maintain.

Video Surveillance

Cameras, analytics, and monitoring technology that keep watch inside and around every facility.

Access Control

Cloud-based and on-premise systems that manage who — and what — gets through the door.

Intrusion & Alarm

Intrusion detection, fire and life-safety alarms, and environmental sensors that flag threats fast.

Commercial Doors & Entry

Automatic and manual entrances and related hardware engineered for safe, reliable daily use.

Perimeter & Gates

Automated gates, commercial fencing, and parking control that secure the property line.

Low-Voltage Cabling

Structured cabling and fiber infrastructure that connect and power every security, network, and communications system.

Our approach

Built by the trade, for the trade.

Northstar was founded by an operator who has worked every seat in the security channel — installation, integration, manufacturer representation, and remote monitoring. We don't need your industry explained to us. We've lived it.

That background changes how we buy and how we operate. We can read a service book, a monitoring contract, and an install backlog without a consultant translating. We know which vendor relationships matter and why your best technician is worth protecting at almost any cost.

How we show up — for owners, teams, and customers.

STEWARDSHIP

Your legacy is the asset

We buy companies because of what they are, not despite it. Protecting the reputation you built is the whole investment thesis — in good years and hard ones.

STRAIGHT TALK

We say what we'll do, then do it

Real numbers, plain language, no re-trading after the LOI. If we're not the right buyer for you, we'll tell you that too — and often we can point you to who is.

PEOPLE FIRST

Technicians are the business

Trucks and inventory don't earn trust — people do. We invest in training, career paths, and retention for the crews who carry your name into the field.

LOCAL FOREVER

Local brand, local decisions

Your customers keep the name and the faces they know. We work behind the scenes — purchasing, back office, recruiting — so your team can say yes more often.

LONG HORIZON

Buying to build, not to flip

We're assembling the best security platform in western North America and Canada, company by company. That only works if every company we buy is stronger five years after close.

CRAFT

Excellent work, measured honestly

We hold ourselves to the standard your best customer would set: clean installs, fast service, honest scoping — and we track it every single week.

The deal, plainly

What stays exactly as it is.

Selling to Northstar

A straightforward process, start to finish.

Confidential conversation

We talk, founder to founder

No brokers needed, no pitch decks required. Tell us about your company, your people, and what you want your exit to look like. Everything is confidential from the first call.

Understanding the business

We review, you get a real number

With an NDA in place, we review your financials and your service book. You receive an indicative offer — and we walk you through exactly how we arrived at it.

Letter of intent

Terms agreed, in writing

Price, structure, your future role, and commitments to your team — fixed in an LOI before diligence begins. We don't sign letters we intend to renegotiate.

Diligence and close

Confirm, close, and fund

We complete confirmatory diligence and plan the employee and customer announcement with you — nobody hears the news secondhand.

The long term

Your company, stronger

The playbook begins: new recurring-revenue services for your customers, better purchasing, back-office relief, and investment in your people. Your name on the door, our support behind it.

Questions, answered

For owners. For teams. For customers.

What kind of companies does Northstar acquire?>
Security integration and alarm companies in western North America and Canada with roughly $1–5M in revenue, ten or more years of operating history, and a reputation their market trusts. Commercial and institutional work is our sweet spot, and an installed base with room to grow recurring services is a plus. If you're close to that profile but not exact, call anyway — the conversation costs nothing.
How do you value a business like mine?>
On fundamentals: sustainable earnings, the quality and stickiness of your customer base, contracted recurring revenue, team stability, and local reputation. Recurring monitoring and service contracts are valued on their own merits, separately from project revenue. We'll show you our math line by line — you should never have to guess how a buyer got to a number.
What happens to my role after the sale?>
That's designed around your goals, not ours. Most founders stay 12–24 months to hand over relationships on their terms; some stay longer in leadership, others step back sooner with a planned transition. We'll agree on it in the LOI so there are no surprises.
How is the purchase structured and funded?>
The majority of the price is cash at close, with the balance in structures that align us — such as a seller note, an earnout, or equity in the platform if you want ongoing upside. Northstar is backed by committed institutional capital, so financing is never a condition we hide behind.
Will you keep this confidential?>
Absolutely. Early conversations happen under NDA, and nothing reaches your employees, customers, or competitors until you decide it should. When it's time, we plan the announcement together — your team hears it from you, with us beside you.
Our company was just acquired. What changes for me?>
Day to day, very little — and what does change should make your job easier. Same brand, same location, same local leadership. What's new is support: better tools, real training budgets, purchasing power, and a back office that takes admin off your plate.
Are layoffs part of the plan?>
No. We acquire service businesses, and in a service business the team is the asset. The industry-wide shortage is technicians, not jobs — our problem is finding more great people, not reducing the ones we have.
What growth opportunities come with Northstar?>
Manufacturer certifications, structured technician training, and a network of sister companies across the platform. As we grow, so do paths into lead tech, service management, and operations leadership roles that a single-branch company could rarely offer.
Do we have to switch products or vendors?>
You keep making the right product decisions for your customers. What you gain is platform pricing and direct manufacturer relationships — the same gear, on better terms, with technical support closer at hand.
Our security provider joined Northstar. What should we expect?>
Continuity first: the same local team, the same phone number, the same people who know your sites. Behind the scenes, your provider now has deeper resources — so response times, parts availability, and service capacity improve rather than slip.
What new capabilities come with Northstar?>
Live 24/7 remote video monitoring, managed cloud video, and modern access control services — delivered through the local team you already trust. Many customers use the transition to finally consolidate monitoring, service, and installation under one roof.
We have sites in multiple cities. Can you cover them?>
Yes — that's one of the biggest advantages of the platform. Northstar companies work to one standard across western North America and Canada, so multi-site customers get consistent workmanship and a single point of accountability, delivered by local crews in each market.
